 Infections

The following infections may also increase your risk:

  • bacterial vaginosis
  • Gonorrhoea
  • HIV
  • Chlamydia
  • Rubella ( German Measles)
  • Malaria
  • Syphilis

Treat any infection as early as possible.

Food poisoning

 Eating contaminated food, can also increase the risk of miscarriage:

  • Eating unpasteurised dairy products, such as blue cheese
  • Eating raw or uncooked infected meat like pork, lamb. ( Toxoplamosis)
  • Eating partly cooked or raw eggs

Make sure your meal, meat and dairy products are properly cooked.

Medicines

Medicines that increase your risk include:

  • Medications used for eczema and acne.
  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – such as ibuprofen; these are used for pain and inflammation

 Always check with your doctor to make sure the medicine is safe in pregnancy

Womb structure

Abnormal womb conditions can also lead to second trimester miscarriages.

  • Growth in the womb like fibroids
  • Womb with abnormal shape
